Sir Walter Scott, First Baron is a Scottish novelist, poet, playwright and historian. Many of his works are still classics of English and Scottish literature. Famous titles include The Lady of the Lake and novels Waverley, Old Mortality, Rob Roy, The Heart of Mid-Lothian, The Bride of Lammermoor and Ivanhoe. Although primarily remembered for his many literary works and political involvement, Scott has been a lawyer, judge and legal manager by profession, and throughout his career he has combines writing and publishing with his daily work as Secretary and Deputy Chief of the Selkirkshire. A prominent member of the conservative Edinburgh organization, Scott was an active member of the Highland Association, served as president of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and as vice president of the Scottish Antiques Association.
