Sir William Ramsay is a Scottish chemist who discovered the precious gas and received the 1904 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "in recognition of his contributions to the detection of inert gas elements in the air" with with his colleague John William Strutt, the 3rd Baron Rayleigh, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics the same year for the discovery of argon. After the two identified argon, Ramsay investigated other gases in the atmosphere.
