Yo-Yo Ma is an American cellist. Born in Paris, France, to Chinese parents and educated in New York, USA, Ma was a prodigy who performed at a young age of 4 and a half. He graduated from Juilliard School and Harvard University and has performed as a soloist with orchestras around the world. He has recorded over 90 albums and received 18 Grammy Awards. In addition to recordings of the classical classical repertoire, he has also recorded a variety of folk music such as American bluegrass, traditional Chinese tunes, tangos by Argentine composer Ástor Piazzolla and Brazilian music. He has collaborated with artists such as jazz singer Bobby McFerrin, guitarist Carlos Santana, Sérgio Assad and his brother, Odair, and singer-songwriter and guitarist James Taylor. Ma's main musical instrument was a Montagnana Cello, made in 1733 and valued at US $ 2.5 million. He has been United Nations Ambassador for Peace since 2006
