Ina Donna Coolbrith is an American poet, writer, librarian and a prominent figure in the literary community of the San Francisco Bay Area. Known as "California's Sweet Singer", she is the First California Poet Award Winner and the First State Poet Award Winner. Coolbrith, born the granddaughter of Latter-day Jesus Christ Church founder, Joseph Smith, left the Mormon community as a child to enter adolescence in Los Angeles, California, where she began publishing poetry. . She ended a failed marriage to settle in San Francisco and met writers Bret Harte and Charles Warren Stoddard, with whom she founded "Golden Gate Trinity" tied to the literary magazine Overland Monthly. His poetry has received positive attention from longtime critics and poets such as Mark Twain, Ambrose Bierce, and Alfred Lord Tennyson. She hosts her literature fairs at home in Russian Hill - in this way, she introduces new writers to publishers.

Author of"The Mother's Grief" and"When the Grass Shall Cover Me", among other works, and the inaugural California Poet Laureate. Many of her poems have appeared in The Overland Monthly, a literary journal based in California.
