David Stead, is a drummer from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. Stead is the drummer for alternative pop / rock band, The Beautiful South. After his parents separated, Stead along with his mother and siblings moved to Cottingham, a village on the outskirts of Hull. He attended Cottingham High School, then worked in electrical repair for several years, after which he was recruited as a part-time sound engineer at the nearby alternative live music club, The Adelphi. At 16, he began with his brother Mick to form the group The Luddits, on drums and Mark Fell on bass. The band released two singles, "Doppelganger" and "Altered States" on Eccentric Records. After The Luddits, Stead joined the group Vicious Circle. In August 1988, he joined The Beautiful South, playing on thirteen albums with the group. Stead took over the Boars Nest restaurant on Princes Avenue, west of Hull, turning it into a Union Mash Up restaurant and venue.
