Lana Michele Moorer, known by her stage name MC Lyte, is an American Grammy-nominated rapper, DJ, actress and businessman. Considered one of the pioneers of female rappers, Lyte made her debut in the late 1980s, becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full album with Lyte in 1988, to critical acclaim as Rock. She released a total of eight solo studio albums and an EP with Most of September. With songs like "Cha Cha Cha", "Paper Thin", "10% Dis", "Ruffneck" and "Poor Georgie", she influenced the work of later female rap faces such as Lil 'Kim, Da Brat , Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill and Eve, among others. She has also collaborated with great artists such as Sinéad O'Connor, Janet Jackson, Brandy, Boyz II Men, Xscape, Moby, will.i.am and Beyoncé. MC Lyte was recognized for her career with the iconic Lifetime Achievement “I Am Hip Hop” of the BET Hip Hop Awards and honored at the VH-1 Hip Hop Honors.
