Richard McKay Rorty is an American philosopher. Educated at the University of Chicago and Yale University, he has interests and extensive training in both the history of philosophy and contemporary analytical philosophy, which later became the main focus of his work at the University. He studied Princeton in the 1960s. He then rejected the philosophical tradition in which knowledge implies a correct representation of a world whose existence is still completely independent of reality. Rorty has had a long and varied academic career, including positions such as Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University, Kenan Professor of Humanities at the University of Virginia, and Professor of Comparative Literature at Stanford University. Among his most influential books are the philosophy and example of nature, the consequences of pragmatism and redundancy, sarcasm and solidarity.
