Other notable roles by McGill in films include Daniel Simpson "D-Day" Day in John Landis' Animal House, Matuzak in Timecop, Reverend Larson in Shallow Hal, Gene Revell in The Sum of All Fears, and Trung. Lt Brooks in Ride Along and its sequel Ride Along 2. Bruce McGill's television roles include Jack Dalton on MacGyver and Det. Vince Korsak on Rizzoli & Isles. He also played Captain Braxton in an episode of Star Trek Voyager and voiced Lloyd Waterman, owner of Waterman Cable, on The Cleveland Show. He played the role of Ralph Houk in the number 61 film Billy Crystal, made for television. In 2021, he had a recurring role in the NASCAR comedy series The Crew on Netflix. During the 2016 presidential election, McGill recounted several commercials promoting Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

He rose to prominence as a supporting actor in the films Collateral (released in 2000) and Law Abiding Citizen (released in 2009). In National Lampoon's Animal House, he played Daniel Simpson Day. In Ride Along and Ride Along 2, he played Lieutenant Brooks.
