Mark Hatfield
Mark Odom Hatfield is an American politician and educator from Oregon. As a Republican, he served for 30 years as a United States Senator from Oregon, and is also chairman of the Senate Occupation Committee. Originally from Oregon, he served in the United States Navy at the Theater of the Pacific during World War II after graduating from Willamette College. After the war he graduated from Stanford University before returning to Oregon and Willamette as a professor. While teaching, Hatfield served on both chambers of the Oregon Legislative Council. He won the post of secretary of state at the age of 34 and was elected 29th governor of Oregon two years later. He is the youngest to ever serve either term and serve two terms as governor before being elected to the United States Senate. In the Senate, he served for thirty years and currently holds the record for the longest term in any Oregon Senate.
