Spencer Woolley Kimball is an American business, citizen, and religious leader, and the twelfth President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grandson of Latter-day Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Kimball was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He spent most of his early days in Thatcher, Arizona, where his father, Andrew Kimball, was a farmer and district stake president. He served in an LDS mission from 1914 to 1916, then worked for various banks in the Gila Valley of Arizona as a bank secretary and cashier. Kimball then co-founded a company, selling bonds and insurance which, after surviving the Great Depression, became very successful. Kimball served as a stake president in his homeland between 1938 and 1943, when he was called to serve as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Like most of the other apostles in the LDS Church, Kimball traveled everywhere to perform many administrative and ecclesial duties.
