He has performed many of the most difficult swims in the world, including in the icy waters of Switzerland and sharks in South Africa. Born in Israel, Barkai holds several world records related to swimming, including the record of being the only person to cross Robben Island at night. He has also appeared in numerous television shows, including the documentary film Stan Lee's Superhumans. As the founder of the International Ice Swim Association, Barkai lives in Cape Town, South Africa, where he moved in 1966 and first experimented with swimming on the water.
