Collis Potter Huntington
Collis Potter Huntington is an American industrialist and railroad tycoon. He was one of the Four Biggest Railroads of the Western Railway that invested in Theodore Judah's idea to build the Central Pacific Railway as part of America's first transcontinental railroad. Huntington helped operate and develop other major federal routes, such as the South Pacific Railway and the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, which he was recruited to help complete. The C&O, completed in 1873, fulfilled Virginia's longtime dream of a railroad connecting the James River in Richmond and the Ohio River Valley. New railway facilities adjacent to the river led to the expansion of the former small town of Guyandotte, West Virginia, into a new town named Huntington in his honor.
