Cordell Hull was an American politician from Tennessee and the longest serving Secretary of State, serving 11 years in the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for much of World War II. Prior to this appointment, he represented Tennessee for two years in the US Senate and twenty-four years in the House of Representatives. Hull received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945 for his role in the founding of the United Nations and was called "Father of the United Nations" by President Roosevelt.
