Jorge Ubico Castañeda, nicknamed the number five or Napoleonic of Central America, was a Guatemalan dictator. As a general in the Guatemalan army, he was elected president in 1931, in an election of which he was the only candidate. He continued the policies of his predecessors by making significant concessions to the United Fruit Company and wealthy landowners, as well as supporting their harsh labor practices. Ubico is described as "one of the most oppressive tyrants Guatemala has ever known", who compared himself to Adolf Hitler. He was deposed by a pro-democracy uprising in 1944, which led to a 10-year Guatemala Revolution.
