Patrick Lloyd McCrory is an American businessman, politician and radio presenter who served as the 74th Governor of North Carolina from 2013 to 2017 as a member of the Republican Party. Previously, he was the 53rd mayor of Charlotte from 1995-2009 and served on the United States Homeland Security Advisory Council from 2002-2006. McCrory was a Republican candidate for governor of the North. Caroline in the 2008 general election and was defeated by Lt. Col. Bev. Perdue, Democratic Party candidate. After a failed election in 2008, McCrory returned to the private sector. On January 31, 2012, he launched his second campaign for governor of North Carolina, winning the election later that year. McCrory became Charlotte's first mayor to win the highest office in the state, as well as North Carolina's first Republican governor since 1993 .
