Born in Lansing, Kansas, he attended high schools and public schools and graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Kansas in Lawrence in 1917. He held the position of lieutenant in the Three Hundred and Fourteen mortar squadron 89, from April 1917 to March 1919. He was called to the bar in 1917 and began practicing at Pine Bluffs and Cody, Wyoming in 1921. He was mayor of Cody from 1930 to 1932 and was an administrator of the University of Wyoming from 1933 until 1933. 1934; He is also involved in the banking sector.
