Recognized as one of the best actresses in Indian cinema, she has appeared in over 180 films and received several awards, including a National Film Award and three awards. She often plays powerful and complex female characters - from fiction to literature - in mainstream and independent films. Although her career went through some stages of decline, Rekha gained a reputation for recreating herself several times and being recognized for her ability to maintain her status.
