Thomas Michael Menino is an American politician who served as the 53rd mayor of Boston, Massachusetts from 1993 to 2014. He is the longest serving mayor of the city. Prior to becoming mayor, a native of Boston was a member and chairman of the Boston City Council. Menino served as president of the US Mayor Conference, co-chaired and co-founded with Michael Bloomberg of the illegal Mayor Against Guns. In January 2014, he was appointed professor of practical political science at Boston University. He was also co-founder and co-director of the City Initiative, an urban leadership research center based at Boston University.
