Juan de Ávalos y García-Taborda is a Spanish sculptor. Juan de Ávalos started out in coaching work very early. At the age of six, he was a pupil of D. Juan Carmona, pastor of Santa Eulalia Church, who taught him to draw and three other children. The Ávalos moved to Madrid shortly after, when his father's vision deteriorated. In Madrid, de Ávalos's father showed the painter Manuel Benedito his son's paintings. The famous artist was surprised to see the quality of a child's work. He didn't believe a kid could draw that well until he went to de Ávalos to work. Believing in the boy's talent, he advised de Ávalos's father to take his son to Casón del Buen Retiro. Author of Los amantes de Teruel de Teruel, Monumento a Luis Carrero Blanco in Santoña, Cantabria, his most important works are the Valle de los Caídos, a majestic monument in Madrid, where the body of Francisco Franco was located.
