Karl Otto Fazer is a Finnish businessman and a marksman in sports. He was born in Helsinki and died in Jokioinen. He has four children and is the grandfather of Peter Fazer's. His father, Eduard Peter Fazer, was a farmer of Swiss origin. Fazer studied bakery in Berlin, Paris and St. Petersburg before becoming a pioneer of Finnish confection. With his wife Berta, he opened a Franco-Russian confectionery at Glogatan 3 in Helsinki on September 17, 1891. He then opened a confectionery and chocolate factory in Punavuori. Fazer, the company he founded, still exists. Many of its products have become classics. This is especially true of "Fazer Blue", a chocolate brand often compared to salmiakki, as a candy that is part of the Finnish national identity. The Fazer Blue recipe was received by the family as a tribute to Karl Fazer's son, Sven Fazer, for caring for a sick boy.
