Porter Johnston Goss is an American politician and government official who served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1989 to 2004, when he became the last director of the Central Intelligence Agency and the first director of the Central Intelligence Agency after the 2004 Intelligence Reform and Counterterrorism Act abolished the DCI position and replaced it with Director of National Intelligence on April 21, 2005. Goss represented the 14th Florida's parliamentary district from 1989 to 2004. Its county, numbered District 13 from 1989 to 1993, includes Fort Myers, Naples and parts of Port Charlotte. He was chairman of the House Intelligence Standing Committee from 1997 to 2004, co-sponsor of the US PATRIOT Act, and co-chair of the General Intelligence Investigation of Case 11. / 9. Goss resigned his post Director of the CIA on May 5, 2006, during a press conference with President George W. Bush in the Oval Office.
