Arthur G. Crane
Arthur Griswold Crane is an American teacher and politician. He was the 20th Governor of Wyoming from 1949 to 1951. Born in New York, Crane attended Carleton College and College of Education at Columbia University, where he received his doctorate in 1920 from Columbia University. He was the first dean of Minot State University and served during World War I during this time. He then became president of the University of Wyoming from 1922 to 1941. He was elected secretary of state for Wyoming in 1946, and when, on 1949-01-03, Lester C. Hunt resigned his post as governor. Wyoming, Crane stepped up efforts to replace his post until Frank A. Barrett was elected in 1950. During his short term, Crane helped build the Wyoming House and Hospital for the Elderly. After retiring from politics, Crane returned to his roots, continuing to work in the education sector. He died in Cheyenne in 1955 .
