Misia, often abbreviated as MISIA, is a Japanese singer, songwriter and record producer. Born in Nagasaki, Misia moved to Fukuoka at the age of 14 to pursue a recording career. There she continued through high school and briefly attended Seinan Gakuin University before retiring to focus on her music career. She signed with BMG Japan in 1997, after auditioning for record producer Haruo Yoda. Misia emerged after releasing her debut album, Mother Father Brother Sister, which became the seventh best-selling Japanese album of all time, winning two Japan Gold Disc Awards and a Japan Record Award. In 2000, Misia released her second album, Love Is the Message, where she won another Japanese Gold Disc Award and a Japanese Record award. Her third studio album, Marvelous, produced her first number one single on the Oricon single chart, "Everything".
