Marlaina Danielle Smith is a former Canadian politician, Global News reporter and CHQR radio presenter. Smith was the leader of the Wildrose Party from October 2009 until December 17, 2014, when she resigned to cross the floor and participated in the caucus of the ruling Radical Conservative Association in Alberta. She represented the constituency of Highwood on the Legislative Council of Alberta. On March 28, 2015, she lost her PC nomination for Highwood to Okotoks board member Carrie Fischer. Fischer continued to be defeated by candidate Wildrose Wayne Anderson in the 2015 general election. Prior to being elected leader of the Wildrose Party, Smith was Director of Alberta Provincial Affairs for the Federation of Single Businesses. She has also worked as a journalist in the print media, radio and television.
