Francisco Guillermo Flores Pérez is a Salvadoran politician who served as President of El Salvador from June 1, 1999 to June 1, 2004, as a member of the Conservative Nationalist Republican Union. Previously, he was a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1994 to 1999, was its president from 1997 to 1999. Flores was born in Santa Ana. He joined politics in the Alfredo Cristiani administration, holding various positions until he was elected to the Legislative Assembly, of which he became president after three years. He successfully ran for president in 1999. His administration is characterized by close ties with the United States, including the adoption of the US dollar. After his presidency ended, he ran unsuccessfully for the post of Secretary General of the Organization of American States.
