John Engler
John Mathias Engler is an American businessman and politician who served as Michigan's 46th governor from 1991 to 2003. As a member of the Republican Party, he went on to work for Business Roundtable, where The Hill called him one of the country's leading lobbyists. Engler has spent most of his adult life in government. He served in the Michigan Senate while enrolled at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and earned a Doctor of Laws degree, serving as a Michigan State Senator since 1979. He was elected Majority Leader in the Senate in 1984 and served there until elected governor. in 1990. Engler sits on the advisory board of the Russell Kirk Cultural Innovation Center, an educational institution that continues the intellectual legacy of famed native and curator Russell Kirk. Engler also sits on the board of directors of the Marguerite Eyer Wilbur Foundation, which sponsors many programs at the Kirk Center.
