Samuel Robert Johnson is an American politician who served as the US representative for Texas' 3rd Congressional District before Congress from 1991 to 2019. He was a member of the Republican Party. In October and November 2015, he served as Acting Chair of the Home Methods and Vehicles Committee, where he also served as Chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee. Johnson was also a U.S. Air Force colonel and ornate fighter pilot during the Korean War and Vietnam War, where he later became a U.S. POW and was detained by John McCain in North Vietnam for nearly of seven years. On January 6, 2017, Johnson announced that he would not stand for re-election in 2018. After Louise Slaughter's death in March 2018, he became the oldest member of the United States House of Representatives. He was the last Korean War veteran to sit in the National Assembly.
