K3 is an all-female Belgian-Dutch group with a Dutch repertoire and is especially loved by pre-teens and teenagers. The name of the group is derived from the initials of the original names of the three members: Karen Damen, Kristel Verbeke and Kathleen Aerts, but the current roster includes Hanne Verbruggen, Marthe De Pillecyn and Klaasje Meijer. Kathleen Aerts left the group in 2009. Josje Huisman was selected as a new member of K3 on October 3, 2009. Their music was produced by production company Studio 100 and written by Miguel Wiels, Alain Vande Putte and Peter Gillis. K3 was founded by Niels William. The popularity of the group was surprising without any broadcasts from popular music channels like MTV. K3 is a group focused on children and has chosen to sell directly to children through animated channels. Their signature style is that all three girls in the group wear almost the same outfit, and each girl's hair is a color of the Belgian flag.
