She was discovered at the age of 16 by EMI Music New Zealand after sending them a demo of her original acoustic music. Before being signed to a major record label, McDell used various social media to raise awareness, posting videos on YouTube - including original songs and covers, Twitter and Facebook to spread its music to the public. She released her first single, "I'll Never Take That Away", on February 20, 2012, to be certified Gold in New Zealand. Following the success of his first single, McDell released his EP, All That I Wanted - Acoustic EP, on May 4, 2012. His second single, "Rewind" was released on May 13, 2012. McDell's debut studio album, Six Strings and a sailboat, released on November 16, 2012 and certified Gold in New Zealand. McDell's second studio album Ask Me Anything was released on March 27, 2015.
