Recognized by Sir Elton John for her musical abilities, she signed with her international music management company, Rocket Music. She then signed a publishing deal with Sony ATV, which cataloged more than 225 of her songs on her 18th birthday. She reached the Top 20 of The Voice season nine.
She was a gymnast and cheerleader when growing up, winning state championships in floor exercises and dancing. She sang choir in college and began writing music at the age of 12. She picked a guitar at the age of 13 and wrote her first song, "Polish the In", just before she was 14 years old.
She received the Bill Lowery Horizon Award from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in October 2012. In 2016, she became the opener of the Nick Carter All-American Tour.
She was born in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. She has a younger brother.
She used to do a duet with pop singer Katy Perry with the song "Witness".
