Ruth Etting was an American singer, Caudevillian, and actress of the 1920s and 1930s, who made over 60 hit records and worked in theater, radio, and film. Known as "American Song Sweetheart", her signature songs are "Shine On, Harvest Moon", "Ten Cents a Dance" and "Love Me or Leave Me". His other popular recordings include "Button Up Your Overcoat", "Mean to Me", "Exactly Like You" and "Shaking the Blues Away". As a young girl from Nebraska, Etting wanted to be an artist; She paints and draws wherever she can. When she was sixteen, her grandparents decided to send her to the Chicago School of the Arts. While Etting was in class, she got a job at the Marigold Gardens nightclub; After a brief stint there, Etting dropped out of art school to move into the performance business. Etting, who liked to sing at school and church, never learned to sing. She quickly became the club's star singer. Etting was then run by Moe Snyder, with whom she married in 1922 .
